Two ways for a sixteen-fold star pattern to connect with an adjacent pattern. The sixteen-fold stars are identical but one has horizontal and vertical parallel bands, the other does not. (One is slightly related compared to the other).
One is from a kursi in the mosque of Sultan Hasan, the other from a minbar panel in the mausoleum of sultan Barsbay, both in Cairo.

An illustration I was planning to use for my book but have decided to reject. It shows how root proportions can be drawn. The famous Golden Mean proportion is found by adding a square to a root 5 rectangle and dividing this in half.
